Overview

Maya Ahmed will work with students to introduce artworks from Sharjah Biennial 10. Together they will explore ideas, materials and processes as students make their own artworks inspired by their visit to the Biennial. Students will hold their own exhibition at the end of the workshop.

About

Maya was born on October, 1981 in Beirut. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in the Education of Fine Arts from the Lebanese University in Beirut and a Professional Certificate in Business Administration from the American University of Sharjah.

As a student of the renowned Lebanese Artist Haidar Hamoui from 1999―2001, Maya learned the basics of painting, drawing and perspective at the Hamoui Center in Lebanon. She has interned and trained in art workshops at the International College, American Community School and Saint Mary Orthodox School in Beirut. She was also the Arts Director at Al-Bayader School and worked taught part-time at the Adventist Secondary School in Beirut.

Maya has also organized a number of successful exhibitions of art made by cycle 1, 2 and 3 students. The themes and objectives of these exhibitions were based on integrating Fine Arts with music, computer and sciences. Her graduation paper is about Creativity in Arts for the Physically Disabled Children.

Maya is the daughter of deaf Lebanese Artist Nada Shehab, who is a member of the Sharjah Special Arts Foundation. She was raised by two deaf parents and has experience in dealing with deaf children.
