Description
An integral part of Afro-Brazilian culture, capoeira is a martial art that combines movement and music. In this interactive workshop, participants will learn about the history of capoeira and practise its core elements: spatial and bodily awareness, defence and attack, rhythm and song, and the fundamental movement of jinga.
This workshop is led by Mestre Caxias, who has been studying capoeira for more than thirty years and is the founder of the New York branch of Grupo Capoeira Brasil, where he taught for seventeen years. He is currently the sole capoeirista of his rank in the MENA region.
This workshop is part of the Sharjah Art Foundation Music Programme launch event on Saturday, 18 November.
