Overview

Thousands of people have attempted to cross the Mediterranean Sea in recent years seeking a better life in Europe. Through a mysterious voice from the bottom of the sea, Drowning Letters tells the story of these tragic years of our contemporary history. Narrating letters from mothers to their children, the voice accompanies Spanish NGO rescue vessel Open Arms in its most dramatic mission, struggling to save 550 people from a shipwreck.

March Meeting 2021: Unravelling the Present, an annual gathering of artists, curators and art practitioners to explore critical issues in contemporary art, will be held between 12–21 March.
