Event Description
In conjunction with the exhibition Chaos into Clarity: Re-Possessing a Funktioning Utopia, Sharjah Art Foundation screens History from the Peabody Award-winning television series Art in the Twenty First Century.
How do artists mine the past to explore the present? Why do some historical events shape the way we think today, and why have some been forgotten? Featuring contemporary artists Marina Abramović, Glenn Ligon and Mary Reid Kelly the film examines ways in which artists play with historical events, explore and expose commonly held assumptions about historic ‘truth’, and create narratives based on personal experiences.
Film to be followed by talk led by exhibition curator Shannon Ayers Holden.
This film is part of our Contemporary Art 101 series and is organised in collaboration with PBS Art21, Inc., a non-profit contemporary art organisation serving artists, students, teachers and the general public.
All SAF events are free and open to the public.
