Art and Cultural Diplomacy

The traditional model of cultural diplomacy - an export or output model of countries or organisations sending art and artists to other parts of the world - requires updating. This panel will consider how art and artists can increase understanding across cultures, how the power of art can best be harnessed to bridge differences, how cultural diplomacy as practiced by governments compares with the efforts by independent entities and how the role of cultural diplomacy changed following the Arab Revolutions. The panel will also discuss what practices of art as cultural diplomacy can best meet the multifaceted needs of the 21st century.
