Rethinking Residencies

This presentation will consider how residencies can best support artistic and curatorial practice in a post-studio condition and how programming can extend this multidisciplinary, intercultural confluence. The complex ecosystem and proliferation of residency programmes necessitates a closer look at how artists
and institutions can negotiate the expectations of funders, the merits of research versus production models, how programmes can build lasting networks and the ways in which residencies act as catalysts for socio-political engagement and meaningful cultural exchange. This presentation will also briefly introduce the International Studio and Curatorial Program (ISCP), its history and move from Manhattan to Brooklyn, its recent collaborations with organisations working in the Middle East and new exhibition, commissioning and publication initiatives.
