Overview

In this presentation Dawood will talk about the history of his collaborative film-making projects, working with extended networks of collaborators as varied as the Cinematheque de Tanger, the Manitoba Legislative Building and Preston Bus Station. Methods whereby these projects were brought to fruition, as well as the idiosyncratic approach to working with funders and institutions to realise these projects will also be discussed. The project Dawood is currently preparing: Towards The Possible Film - a multi-part, multi-narrative film for multiple modes of distribution, will be used as an example to discuss the methodology of artists’ film and the slippage between audience and participant. The presentation will look at increasing the scope and ambition of a project, seeing beyond the traditional model by working with different commissioning bodies and residency partners as well as exploring multiple modes of distribution for artists’ film in order to reach a much wider, niche audience.
