A Typology of Houses is a descriptive record of culture made manifest in the building vernacular of residential housing in Dubai. Al-Ani looked to achieve maximum objectivity in her photographs, eliminating as much extraneous information as possible. According to the artist: 'When I classified the photographs into categories that highlight architectural styles (gothic, oriental, traditional) I began to recognise patterns that map the city and its people.'
Hala Al-Ani graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor in Visual Communication from the School of Architecture and Design, American University of Sharjah.
