Autumn Film Series 2022

Overview

The Autumn Film Series 2022 presents two series of films across the weekends of November. The programme is part of Sharjah Art Foundation’s seasonal film screenings taking place in Mirage City Cinema.

Friday: Witching Hours

Witching Hours explores the practice and cultural relevance of witchcraft in three parts of the world: the United States, Cameroon and Finland. Although films about witches are seen by many as mere escapism, these narratives not only entertain but also raise important issues around gender and power.

Screening on 11 and 18 November 2022 at 8:00 pm and 10:00 pm, the series presents four feature-length films: the fantasy-comedies Hocus Pocus (1993) and Quartier Mozart (1992) and the horror films The White Reindeer (1952) and The Blair Witch Project (1999).

Saturday: Japanese Film Weekend

Sharjah Art Foundation celebrates the 50-year anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and the UAE with the Japanese Film Weekend, presented in collaboration with the Consulate General of Japan in Dubai and The Japan Foundation. The programme includes two films focusing on personal relationships: 5 Centimeters per Second (2007) by Makoto Shinkai, an anime about the complexities of love and Tokyo Story (1953) by Yasujiro Ozu, a classic story of family, to be screened on 12 November and 19 November respectively.
