Talk Description

On Sunday, 4 November, Raed Yassin and Sam Shalabi of PRAED Orchestra! will discuss their innovative approaches to creating music with both composed and improvisational elements. They will also explore some of the influences that have informed their trajectory as musicians, from genres like free jazz, space jazz and psychedelic rock, to research on the social and cultural significance of Arabic popular music (shaabi). In addition, Yassin and Shalabi will invite attendees to consider how music can transcend geographical and social ascriptions.

PRAED Orchestra! is a fourteen-piece conglomerate of unique musical characters from the Middle East, Europe and North America, initiated by Raed Yassin and Paed Conca. On Saturday, 3 November, the ensemble will perform together for the first time and present a new composition commissioned by Sharjah Art Foundation and brought to life during rehearsals at the foundation.
