Open calls and opportunities for artists and art practitioners

Overview

Along with announcements of our year-round open calls and grants, which support emerging and established artists working in contemporary art, Sharjah Art Foundation has compiled a list of reputable local, regional and international open calls, educational opportunities, grants and residencies in other institutions. In keeping with the Foundation’s commitment to supporting the art community, this reference tool is updated on a regular basis.

Self Organizations Open Call
Mophradat, Brussels
Deadline: 15 May 2024

Self Organizations is a programme that aims to provoke inventive ways of working together and collaborating. Projects are supported across two different categories:

Informal Co-ops: A minimum of four practitioners need to come together and identify a resource that they can share for a period of six months to one year that can help them develop their work. A maximum budget of 8,000 EUR will be available to cover the cost of this shared resource.

Topical Assemblies: A group of at least four people need to come together and organise a collective discussion, such as a seminar or workshop, on a specialised topic of their interest. A maximum budget of 4,000 EUR will be available for activities that can take place over six months.

Open Call: Theatre at Serendipity Arts Festival 2024
Serendipity Arts Festival, New Delhi

Serendipity Arts invites applications in two categories: Ready Productions and Commissions. Selected entries will feature in the festival’s lineup and other performances through the year.

The open call is applicable to solo and group performances that may or may not be interdisciplinary in nature. There is no limitation to the themes, forms and language explored through the performance. Artists/groups can send multiple entries for both categories and can apply in both categories.

Open Call: science_technology_society
Delfina Foundation, London

Delfina Foundation welcomes applications from artists, curators, researchers, technologists, activists, writers and thinkers who seek to explore how emergent technologies effect our understanding of mental wellbeing, and who are interested in probing the potential for intersecting art, science and technology to reimagine mental health support, justice and pride. This opportunity is open to practitioners from around the world.

AFAC Cinema Program
Arab Fund for Arts and Culture, Beirut

AFAC's Cinema program supports feature and short-length fiction films in the Arab region. For feature-length films, the cinema programme provides up to 10,000 USD in development grants, up to USD 50,000 in production grants and up to 25,000 USD in post-production grants. For short and medium-length films, the programme provides up to 20,000 USD in production grants and up to 10,000 USD in post-production grants.

AFAC Music Program
Arab Fund for Arts and Culture, Beirut

AFAC’s music grant supports music production, performances, collaborations, album recordings, music-related podcasts and festivals. The music grant programme provides annual grants of up to 25,000 USD for individuals and teams, and up to 35,000 USD for collectives and institutions.

AFAC Training and Regional Events Grant
Arab Fund for Arts and Culture, Beirut

AFAC’s Training and Regional Events grant supports training and workshops in different cultural and artistic fields, archive and documentation platforms, in addition to residencies, symposiums, forums and festivals (multidisciplinary, music, film, performing arts, visual arts and literature).

The Training and Regional Events grant provides annual grants of up to 25,000 USD for individuals and teams, and up to 35,000 USD for collectives and institutions.

Orbitals Open Call
Mophradat, Brussels

Orbitals is a programme that takes four curators and arts researchers to an international location to learn about a different artistic context in the Global South and share this knowledge with their communities. During the eight-day guided research trip, the participants, along with members of Mophradat’s team, meet and share experiences with peers from the art scenes they are visiting. This year’s edition will take place in Indonesia and is open to applicants who are from or living in the Arab world.
