Overview
Sharjah Art Foundation in collaboration with the UAE’s largest active Instagram community hosted Sharjah’s first edition of the Worldwide Instameet 12, on Saturday, October 3, 2015.
#WWIM12_Sharjahart brought together 65 active Instagrammers to Kalba, the East Coast of the Emirate of Sharjah, where Sharjah Art Foundation has acquired the abandoned Kalba Ice Factory, showing the commissioned ethereal large scale installation of Adrián Villar Rojas Planetarium- which was launched during the opening of SB12 earlier this year and remains on view as it decays.
The Environment and Protected Areas Authority Sharjah (EPAA) provided attendees with special access to the surrounding protected mangroves of Al Qurm, which have been closed off since 2012, a rare opportunity to see the restored wildlife of Kalba.
Lunch was served overlooking the mangroves in Fen Restaurant where traditional dragon boat racing began to take place and participants had an opportunity to network.
World Wide Instameets took place around the world over the weekend, and three instameets took place in the UAE giving the local instragram community the chance to participate in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
Sharjah Art Foundation is committed to growing its local creative community and aims to plan more opportunities for participants to get together and experience the rich heritage and dramatic landscapes of Sharjah.
