Overview
Sharjah Art Foundation welcomes audiences to two major exhibitions: Art in the Age of Anxiety, which features works exploring the ways everyday devices, technologies and digital networks have altered our collective consciousness by over 30 international contemporary artists and art collectives, and Homebound: A Journey in Photography, which traces the career and work of acclaimed artist and photographer Aïda Muluneh. Rain Room Sharjah, our permanent installation by Random International, is also open to the public. Both the exhibitions and Rain Room will be open to visitors at reduced capacity to ensure the comfort and safety of our community.
Art in the Age of Anxiety

The most ambitious exhibition in the Middle East to date about art in the age of the internet, Art in the Age of Anxiety, which is set in an immersive architectural environment, presents more than 60 works, ranging from sculpture, prints and video to virtual reality, robotics and algorithmic programs.
Guests interested in visiting this exhibition can do so by booking an available slot in advance. Visitor capacity will be limited in adherence to recommended social distancing guidelines. Viewings will be limited to 45 minutes.

Homebound: A Journey in Photography
Sharjah Art Museum, Arts Square

A collaboration between The Africa Institute, Sharjah Art Foundation and the Sharjah Museums Authority, this two-part exhibition features several series of Muluneh’s photographic works and a selection of other works by contemporary African photographers.
Curated by Salah M. Hassan, Director of The Africa Institute, with Sataan Al-Hassan as associate curator, the first part of the exhibition chronicles Muluneh’s journey as an artist and photojournalist as well as her multiple contributions to image-making.
The second part of the exhibition, curated by Muluneh and titled ‘Addis Foto Fest: Nine Years Survey’, selectively recounts the evolution of the Addis Foto Fest (AFF), which she founded in 2010. AFF is a biennial event held in Addis Ababa and the first and only international photography festival in East Africa.
Sharjah Art Museum is open from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, Saturday to Thursday, and from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday. This exhibition is free to attend.
Rain Room Sharjah
Al Majarrah Park, Sharjah
Our permanent installation by Random International, Rain Room Sharjah, invites visitors to walk through a room of pouring rain without getting wet. Viewings will be limited to five guests per booking in adherence to recommended social distancing guidelines. Tickets can be purchased online here.
