Biography
Leeza Ahmady is a curator and educator noted for directing Asia Contemporary Art Week (ACAW) platform, which partners with leading New York and Asia-based institutions to contextualise art practices through exhibitions and public programmes citywide. Ahmadi introduced Field Meeting in 2014, an annual forum for artists and art professionals, with editions hosted at Asia Society Museum, Venice Biennale, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Hunter College Art Galleries. A member of the Agents/Curatorial Team for dOCUMENTA (13) exhibition in Kassel and Seminars in Kabul (2010-12), she has presented numerous exhibitions, talks and public programmes including Lee Mingwei’s Sonic Blossom, The Metropolitan Museum of Art (2015), History of Histories: Afghan Films 1960-Present, a series of films screened at Solomon R Guggenheim Museum, In Residence Visual Art Program of Season of Cambodia Festival, Asia Society Museum and MoMA (2013), Dialogues in Contemporary Art, ICI-Independent Curators International (2012-14) and Tarjama/Translation: Contemporary Art From Middle East, Central Asia and Diasporas, Herbert E Johnson Museum of Art Cornell University (2010) and Queens Museum (2009). She has published texts in 100 Notes – 100 Thoughts, part of dOCUMENTA (13), Ibraaz, Manifesta Journal, Dispatch (Independent Curators International), Guggenheim Blogs and ArtAsiaPacifc, and recently lectured at The New Museum, Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, Asia Art Archive, Jogja Biennial, Duke University and Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art.
