Biography
Painter Ahmed Sharif explores memory through the simple shapes and muted colour palette that characterise his compositions.
Sharif’s work has been shown in numerous exhibitions across the Middle East, Europe and Australia since 1993, including 1980–Today: Exhibitions in the United Arab Emirates, UAE Pavilion, 56th Venice Biennale (2015); Colours of the Emirates, Lausanne (2011); Tehran Biennial (2005); EMAAR International Symposium, Dubai (2005); Mahaba Biennial, Latakia, Syria (2003); Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh, Dhaka (2003); eighth International Cairo Biennial (2001), Arab University Biennial (2001) and Sharjah Biennial 3 (1997).
He has won many prizes nationally and internationally and is on the board of the Emirates Fine Arts Society, where he served as director between 2006 and 2008.
Sharif holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the United Arab Emirates University, Al Ain. He was born in 1978 in Dubai, where he continues to live and work.
