Biography

Abdulla Al Kaabi is a filmmaker whose films tackle the social aspects of everyday life in the region.

His first feature-length film, Only Men Go to the Grave, premiered at the Dubai International Film Festival (2016) and received the award for the Best Emirati Feature. Previously, he directed two short films: Koshk (2014), which won two awards at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival 2014, including Best International Short, and The Philosopher (2011), featuring French actor Jean Reno.

Al Kaabi studied at the American University of Sharjah. While he was a student there, he was scouted to be a reality TV presenter on Dubai TV, where he worked for the next four years. He moved to Paris in 2009 to pursue a master's degree in filmmaking at the École Internationale de Création Audiovisuelle et de Réalisation.

Al Kaabi is currently preparing to shoot his second feature-length film, Camel Tears.

He was born in 1986 in Fujairah, UAE, where he continues to live and work.

Sharjah Film Platform Talks and Workshops

In parallel with the screening of over 50 films, Sharjah Film Platform (SFP) presents a programme of talks on cinema and artists’ moving image—from panel discussions to in-conversation sessions—that address the creative and conceptual aspects of filmmaking and the latest debates in the film and television industry. Workshops on various topics related to cinema, from acting improvisation to film criticism, will also be offered.
