Biography
Allora & Calzadilla’s formally unique artistic language is deeply informed by a critical and visionary approach towards meaning-making. Through incisive analysis, interpretation and speculative reordering of objects and their potential signification, the artists create thick artistic sites formed of compound allusions, material incorporation and dispersive signals that operate as semiotic-affective machines of critical thinking and transformative poetics.
Allora & Calzadilla’s work has been shown recently in solo exhibitions at MAXXI, Rome (2018); Fundació Antoni Tàpies, Barcelona (2018); Museum of Modern Art Medellin, Colombia (2018); Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil, Mexico City (2018); ICA Miami (2017); Art Gallery of Alberta, Canada (2016); ATL Istanbul (2016); DIA Art Foundation, New York (2015); Philadelphia Museum of Art, US (2014) and US Pavilion, 54th Venice Biennale (2011).
