Biography
Freelance stage director Anestis Azas and director, dramaturge and performer Prodromos Tsinikoris have together developed numerous plays addressing social and political issues in present-day Greece.
In addition to Clean City (2016), their works include Utopia in Progress (2014), an on-stage confrontation between Greek and German juveniles; Telemachus – Should I Stay or Should I Go? (2013), a portrayal of conflict between two generations of Greek immigrants in Germany; Epidaurus – A Documentary (2012), a critical account of the history of the annual Epidaurus festival in Greece and A Journey by Train (2011), a documentary play about the Greek railway system.
Azas and Tsinikoris’ plays have been featured in numerous theatre festivals and institutions across Europe, including the Athens & Epidaurus Festival; Ballhaus Naunynstrasse, Berlin; Chantiers d’Europe, Paris; Festival of New Dramaturgies, Bydgoszcz, Poland; Mladi Levi International Festival, Ljubljana, Slovenia; National Theatre of Northern Greece, Thessaloniki; Onassis Cultural Centre Athens; Festival Premières, Karlsruhe, Germany/Strasbourg, France; Theater Konstanz, Germany; Wiesbaden Biennale, Germany and Zürcher Theater Spektakel, Zurich.
Since 2015, Azas and Tsinikoris have worked as artistic directors of the Experimental Stage, National Theatre of Greece, Athens. Both are graduates of the School of Drama, Faculty of Fine Arts, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Azas also pursued further studies at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts, Berlin.
Azas was born in Thessaloniki, Greece in 1978, and Tsinikoris in Wuppertal, Germany in 1981. Both live and work in Athens.
