Biography
For Minam Apang, drawing is a way of renewing relationships with her surroundings as well as a method of mining memory and the fluid space of imagination.
Apang’s solo exhibitions include Drawing Phantoms: Recent Works (2017), Recent Drawings: Moon Mirrors Mountains (2015) and Death in a Rainforest (2011), all at the Chatterjee & Lal Gallery, Mumbai. Her work has also been shown in group exhibitions at the Lahore Biennale (2018); Dhaka Art Summit (2018); D/code, Mumbai (2018); Chatterjee & Lal Gallery, Mumbai (2017); Hara Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo (2012); India Habitat Center, New Delhi (2012); New Museum Triennial, New York (2012); Devi Art Foundation, New Delhi (2011); Prague Biennale V (2011); Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art, Queensland Art Gallery ǀ Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane (2009); Gallery Side 2, Tokyo (2009); Galleryske, Bangalore (2008); New Museum, New York (2008); Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, Mumbai (2006) and National Gallery of Modern Art, Mumbai (2005).
She received a fellowship from the Civitella Ranieri Foundation, Umbertide, Italy (2013) and participated in a residency programme at Arts Initiative Tokyo (2009).
Apang earned a BFA in studio art from Elmhurst College, US (2002) and an MFA from Sir JJ School of Art, Mumbai (2005).
Born in 1979 in Naharlagun, India, she currently lives and works in Goa.
