Biography
Alfredo Juan and Isabel Aquilizan's projects are informed by their home life as well as their experience as Filipino immigrants to Australia. For Project Be-longing, 1997–2007, they collected keepsakes from other similarly dislocated people. In Who’s Gonna Clean the Toilet, 2002, they stayed overnight in the Cultural Center of the Philippines in Manila, marking its space with traces of their residence.
The Aquilizans have participated in numerous international exhibitions, including the Liverpool Biennial, UK (2012); Asia Pacific Triennial, Brisbane (1999, 2009); Dojima River Biennale, Osaka, Japan (2009); Singapore Biennale (2008); Biennale of Sydney, Australia (2006); Gwangju Biennale, South Korea (2004) and the Venice Biennale, Italy (2003).
