Biography

Encompassing photography, video, print and installations, Fatma Belkıs’ work offers new perspectives on the connections between humans and non-humans, recent history and geological time, and politics and the natural environment. Reflecting her membership in the artist collective KABA HAT, her work often focuses on issues related to solidarity, community and the commercial and bureaucratic limitations constraining contemporary life.

Belkıs’ work has been shown internationally in exhibitions at Sharjah Biennial 13 (with İz Öztat) (2017); Tasarım Bakkalı, Yeldeğirmeni, İstanbul (KABA HAT Collective Show) (2017); 14th Istanbul Biennial (with İz Öztat)(2015); El Hamra Han, Beyoğlu/İstanbul (with Onur Gökmen, work commissioned by Spot Production Fund) (2014); Gallery Tankut Aykut, Beyoğlu, İstanbul (with Onur Gökmen)(2014); Apartment Project, NeuKölln, Berlin (KABA HAT Collective Show)(2013); Institut für Alles Mögliche, Mitte, Berlin (KABA HAT Collective Show) (2013); İstanbul Museum of Modern Art, Tophane, İstanbul (2013) and Sabiha Artist Residency, Antalya (KABA HAT Collective Show) (2012).

Belkıs received a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in visual arts and visual communication design from the Sabancı University Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Istanbul and is pursuing doctoral studies at the European Graduate School, Saas-Fee, Switzerland.

Born in 1985 in Antalya, Turkey, Belkıs currently lives and works in Istanbul.
