Biography

Carolina Caycedo is a multidisciplinary artist known for her performances, videos, artist’s books, sculptures and installations that examine environmental and social issues. Her work contributes to the construction of environmental historical memory, as a fundamental element for non-repetition of violence against human and non-human entities.

Her solo exhibitions include From the Bottom of the River, MCA Chicago (2020–2021); Cosmotarrayas, ICA Boston (2020); Wanaawna, Rio Hondo, and Other Spirits, Orange County Museum of Art, US (2019–2020) and Care Report, Muzeum Sztuki, Łódź, Poland (2019–2020).
Her work has also been shown at several group exhibitions, including The Precipice of Change, Chennai Photo Biennale (2021); The Serpent’s Eye, Le Musée d'art contemporain de la Haute-Vienne, France (2021); Potential Worlds, Migros Museum, Zurich and Baku Museum of Modern Art, Azerbaijan (2020); Fragile Creation, Dom Museum, Vienna (2020); ...And Other Such Stories, Chicago Architecture Biennial (2019); Ecovisionaries, Royal Academy of Art, London (2019); Between the Waters, Whitney Museum, New York (2018); and A Universal History of Infamy, LACMA-PST Getty, Los Angeles (2017).

She has participated in numerous international biennales, including Sao Paulo, Istanbul, Berlin, Havana and Whitney. She has received funding from Creative Capital, Prince Claus Fund, and others.

Caycedo has developed publicly engaged projects in major cities across the world and held residencies at the DAAD in Berlin and The Huntington Libraries, Art Museum and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, US, among others.

She is the inaugural US Latinx Artist Fellow (2021–2022) and the 2020-2022 inaugural Borderlands Fellow at the Center for Imagination in the Borderlands at Arizona State University (ASU) and the Vera List Center for Art and Politics at The New School, New York.

Caycedo has earned an MFA from Roski School of Fine Arts, University of Southern California, Los Angeles and a BA from Los Andes University, Bogotá.

Born in 1978 in London, she lives and works in Los Angeles.
