Biography
Los Carpinteros live and work in Madrid and Havana. The collective, formed in 1992, comprises Marco Castillo and Dagoberto Rodríguez. Alexandre Arrechea was also a member until his departure in 2003. Occupying an ambiguous space between conceptualism, activism and formalism, Los Carpinteros use drawings as blueprints, architectural methods and everyday objects that question our social environment and the built structures that compose it. Los Carpinteros’ works are part of the permanent collections at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Guggenheim Museum, New York; Tate Gallery, London; Museo de Bellas Artes, Havana; Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid; Thyssen-Bornemisza Contemporary Art Foundation, Vienna; Centro Cultural de Arte Contemporaneo, Mexico City; and Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Their work has been exhibited internationally at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Monterrey, Mexico; Parasol Unit Foundation for Contemporary Art, London; Matadero, Madrid; Kunstverein Hannover; and Faena Arts Center, Buenos Aires, amongst others.
