Biography
Eric Chen’s work straddles the line between art and architecture, body and sensation. Concrete architectural elements such as windows, doors and roofs are given new meaning in conjunction with artistic forms and activities.
His work has been featured in Sharjah Biennial 13 (in collaboration with Rain Wu) (2017); Post Ecolonialism Project, Museum of Contemporary Art Tapei (2016–2017); Urban Floating Islands, Taiwan Culture Festival, Hong Kong (2016) and Taipei Biennial (2016). Major architectural projects include Floating Island Suspension Bridge (2016), Light Ponds (2016), Floating Field (2014) and landscape designs for the Xincen Community of Chiayi, Taiwan.
Chen is an assistant professor in the Department of Architecture at Chung Yuan Christian University, Taoyuan, Taiwan. He has served as an art consultant and curator for THE 201 ART, Taichung, Taiwan and principal architect at ArchiBlur Lab, Taoyuan. He received a bachelor’s degree from the Department of Architecture, Chung Yuan Christian University (2002) and a postgraduate degree from the Graduate Institute of Architecture, Tainan National University of the Arts (2006). He also completed the Doctoral Programme in Art Creation and Theory at the Tainan National University of the Arts (2015).
Born in 1978 in Tainan, Taiwan, Chen currently lives and works in Taichung and Taoyuan.
