Biography

His characters often play off notions of autobiography fantasy and inhabit bustling market squares, city streets and museum galleries.

Recent solo performances of his work have been held at the Singapore International Festival of Arts, Singapore (2014) and Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester International Festival, UK (2013). Solo exhibitions of his work have been presented at Carriageworks, Sydney (2012) and the New Museum, New York (2009).

Nikhil Chopra has participated in major group exhibitions including at Zacheta National Gallery of Art, Warsaw, Poland (2011); the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago (2010); Astrup Fearnley Museum, Oslo, Norway (2009); Venice Biennale (2009); Manchester International Festival, The Whitworth Gallery, Manchester, UK (2009); Yokohama Triennale, Japan (2008); Mori Art Museum, Tokyo (2008) and Serpentine Gallery, London (2008).
