Biography

A curator, art historian and scholar, Lucrezia Cippitelle has developed several collaborative cultural projects in the Global South with academic and contemporary art institutions, research platforms, biennales, museums and cultural centres. At present, she is the director of the education programme at Lubumbashi Biennale as well as professor of Aesthetics at the Brera Art Academy in Milan, and member of cheFare, an organisation focused on cultural innovation and the transformative potential of culture in Milan.

Her curatorial projects include, Lubumbashi, Snaps in a City, Fabbrica del Vapore, Milan (2018); 2nd Bienal de Bucaramanga, Colombia (2015); Landscape as a Social System, Art Brussels (2014); Urban Scéno Ouakam/Dakar, Senegal (2013); and Memory and place disclosed, Fondazione Pistoletto, Biella, Italy (2012).

She has authored and edited many books, including Eurocentrismo (Bulzoni, 2013); Connecting La Havana, (Digicult Publisher, 2011); Tania Bruguera (Postmedia Books, 2010); and Alamar Express Lab (Gangemi Editore, 2007). She has also contributed to many publications, including Postcolonialism in the Encyclopedia of Aesthetics (Oxford University Press, 2014) and Theory and Practice of a Lab in MLAC-INDEX 2000-2012 (Gangemi, 2013).

She received a Fellowship for Academic Research in Extra-EU Countries and a Post-Graduate Research Fellowship from La Spienza University, Rome (1999 and 2005 respectively) as well as a research grant from the Institute for the Comparative Modernities, Cornell University, Ithaca (2007–2009).

Cippitelle holds a BA and an MA in History of Contemporary Art from La Sapienza University (1999) and was awarded a PhD in Art History from La Spienza University and Cornell University, USA (2008).

Born in 1974 in Rome, she currently lives and works in Milan.
