Biography
Céline Condorelli is an artist whose practice merges installation, exhibition, politics, fiction, display, public space, sound and writing. She combines a number of different approaches in her work, from developing structures of ‘supporting’ (the work of others, forms of political imaginary, existing and fictional realities) to broader enquiries into forms of commonality and discursive sites.
Her solo exhibitions and long-term projects include Two Years Vacation, FRAC Lorraine, Metz, France (2020); Host/Vært, Kunsthal Aarhus, Denmark (2020); Céline Condorelli, Kunsthaus Pasquart, Biel/Bienne, Switzerland (2019); Ausstellungsliege, Albertinum Dresden (2019); Zanzibar, a permanent installation for the Kings Cross Project, London (2018); Another Reality, Eastside Projects, Birmingham (2018) and Corps à Corps, Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane (2017–ongoing). She has also participated in a number of group shows and biennials, such as Every Step in the Right Direction, Singapore Biennial (2019); Sharjah Biennial 13: Tamawuj, Act II, Ashkal Alwan, Beirut (2017); Liverpool Biennial (2016); Making & Unmaking, Camden Arts Centre, London (2016); 20th Biennale of Sydney (2016), How Institutions Think, LUMA Arles, France (2016); and Céline Condorelli, Chisenhale Gallery, London (2014).
Condorelli’s work is in the public collections of Muzeum Sztuki, Lodz, Poland; GfZk, Leipzig; Albertinum, Dresden, Germany; Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven, the Netherlands; Museum of Art of São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand (MASP), Sao Paolo; and Macro Museum, Rome.
She has published numerous texts in publications and print journals, including Travel Sculptures (Bruno Munari: Obvious Code, The Serving Library, 2019); Notes (The Constituent Museum, L’Internationale, Valiz, 2018); Céline Condorelli on Extended Field of Vision by Herbert Bayer (Mousse Magazine, Issue 61, 2017); The Company She Keeps (Book Works, Chisenhale Gallery and Van Abbemuseum, 2014); and Support Structures (Sternberg Press, 2009).
Condorelli is one of the founding directors of Eastside Projects, Birmingham, UK. She was also Professor of Visual Arts and Curatorial Practice at Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti (NABA) Milan (2011-2018).
She earned an MA in History and Theory of Architecture from the University of East London (2000) and a PhD in Research Architecture from the Visual Cultures Department, Goldsmith College, London (2013).
Born in 1974 in Boulogne-Billancourt, France, Condorelli currently lives and works between London and Lisbon.
