Biography
Jesse Darling is a London- and Berlin-based artist working in sculpture, installation, video, drawing, text, sound and performance. Darling’s work is broadly concerned with what it means to be a body in the world, both politically charged and culturally determined. Recent projects attempt to ‘denaturalise’ the philosophical ecosystem of capitalist modernity, construed as a movable and precarious tabernacle in which theology is a technology, object relations are a form of syncretic worship, and scientific empiricism is just another faith-based system. Darling has received commissions from The Museum of Modern Art, Warsaw; Serpentine Gallery, London; and the Volksbuhne, Berlin, amongst others. Darling’s work has been exhibited at Sultana Galerie, Paris (2017); Arcadia_Missa, London (2016); and Company Gallery, New York (2016). Darling has curated various projects and exhibitions at Wysing Arts Centre, Cambridge, UK (2016); Block Universe Festival, London (2016); and Serpentine Park Nights, London (2015) and published texts in print and online, including The Best British Poetry 2015 (Salt Press), Mass Effect: Art and the Internet in the 21st Century (MIT Press, 2015) and Art After the Internet (Cornerhouse Books, 2014).
