Enrico David

Biography

The human body, as form and corporeal idea, is ever present as the themes of transformation, rebirth and erosion weave an anthropomorphic narrative throughout Enrico David's work.

Anchored in the studied and precise application of drawing, David’s works transition from ideas sketched on paper to painting, sculpture, fibre and site-specific installations. When completed, the works incorporate applied arts, artisanal craft traditions and elements of industrial design, simultaneously conveying a sense of both bodily permanence and impermanence.

David’s works have been exhibited extensively in solo and group exhibitions throughout Europe and the United States. Solo exhibitions of his work have been presented at Lismore Castle, Ireland (2016); The HepworthWakefield, UK (2015); Collection Maramotti, Reggio Emilia, Italy (2015); Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2013); New Museum, New York (2011); Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa,Venice (2011); Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Basel (2009); Seattle Art Museum, USA (2008); Institute of Contemporary Arts, London (2007) and Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (2007).

David’s group exhibitions include This is a Voice, Wellcome Collection, London (2016); Terrapolis, École Française d’Athènes, Athens (2015); The Encyclopaedic Palace, 55th Venice Biennale (2013) and Cosmic Laughter, Ursula Blickle Foundation, Stuttgart (2012). David was shortlisted for the Turner Prize in 2009.
