Annie Dorsen

Biography

Annie Dorsen produces performative art that is influenced by politics and culture. Her work explores the flow between the virtual and the embodied, the digital and the psychological, and the inherent theatricality of psychic space.

Dorsen’s performances include The Slow Room, Performance Space, New York (2018); The Great Outdoors, Crossing the Line, New York and Théâtre de la Cité internationale, Paris (2017); Yesterday Tomorrow, The Holland Festival, Amsterdam; Festival d'Automne à Paris; Croatian National Theater, Zagreb; Maerzmusik at Berliner Festspiel, Berlin and Performance Space 122, New York (2015); Youtube 1-4, Catch Series, New York and Poets Theater, Chicago (2015); A Piece of Work, Brooklyn Academy of Music, New York; On the Boards, Seattle, US; Brut, Vienna; Théâtre de la Villete, Paris and Onassis Cultural Center, Athens (2013); and Shuffle Culture with Questlove of The Roots, BAM Opera House, Brooklyn (2012).

Dorsen was the recipient of the Spalding Gray Award, New York (2018); Guggenheim Fellowship (2018); Foundation for Contemporary Arts Grant to Artists Award, New York (2017); New Settings Program Grant, Foundation d’Enterprise Hermès (2017), Individual Artist Award, New York State Council on the Arts (2015) and the Herb Alpert Award in the Arts (2014).

She has served as Visiting Assistant Professor, University of Chicago (2016–present); Visiting Artist Professor, Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, US (2018); Studio Guest Lecturer, Columbia University, New York (2015); Guest Lecturer, California Institute of the Arts, Santa Clarita, US (2015); Guest Lecturer, Brown University, Providence, US (2012) and Adjunct Professor, Fordham University, New York (2002–2003).

Dorsen holds a Master of Fine Arts from Yale School of Drama, New Haven, US (2000) and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Yale College (1996). She was born in 1973 in New York, where she continues to live and work.
