Biography
Since the late 1960s Lili Dujourie has explored a wide range of media including video, sculpture, photography and installation. Her collected video works (1972-1981) are considered seminal feminist works.
Dujourie's installation works are memorable for the broadly diverse assembly of materials and objects the artist employs. In recent years she has worked primarily with clay. In the Sharjah Biennial (2009) she showed abstract table works in clay from 2007 and three-dimensional wire portraits from 2000-01. This separation and then juxtaposition of these two fundamental elements of classical clay sculpture - the clay and its traditional wire framework - reveals both the principles and the mechanics of the creative act.
Dujourie has had recent solo exhibitions at La Conservera, Centro de Arte Contemporáneo, Murcia, Spain (2010), and Creux de l’Enfer, Thiers, France (2008). Her work has been shown in the Korea Biennale (2008), the Gwangju Biennial, Korea (2008), Arts Le Havre, Frankrijk, the Netherlands (2008), at PS1, New York (2008), Documenta, Kassell (2007), and Ellipsis, a group exhibition which opened in 2007 at the Tamayo Museum, Mexico City and subsequently travelled to the Lund Kunsthalle, Sweden(2008) and the Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre (2008).
Lili Dujourie was born 1941 in Roselare, Belgium and currently lives and works in Lovendegem near Gent.
