Biography
In his work as Director of the Media Art Biennale, Santiago, Enrique Rivera Gallardo develops research for audiovisual installations through the use of methodologies for documentary filmmaking, the hybrid between past and present contexts, and the distribution of tangible and intangible objects in immersive contexts.
He has curated numerous projects, including The Fourth World, 14th Media Arts Biennial, Santiago (2019); The vanishing of Los Andes, Centro Cultural Ricardo Rojas, Buenos Aires (2018); 4th Encounter of Art, Science and Digital Culture, Castillo Hidalgo, Santiago (2018); Tremble, 13th Media Arts Biennial, National Museum of Fine Arts, Santiago (2017); 3rd Encuentro de Cultura Digital, National Archive, Santiago (2016); and Suspensión Voluntaria de la Lógica, Centro de Arte Contemporanea Velan, Turin, Italy (2006).
Rivera Gallardo has edited the catalogues for the 7th–14th Media Arts Biennial (2009–2020); four editions of Art, Science and Digital Culture (2009–2018); and Cyber Synergy, 1970–1973: Sinergia Cibernetica / Multinode-Metagame, 2002–( ) (2007), among others. His article ‘A brave electronic new world’ appeared in Arte Digital: Fraturas, preservacao proliferativa e dimensao Afetiva (Media Lab/UFG, 2014).
He studied at the Chile Film School (1999) and pursued directing at the Universidad de Chile (2000). He earned a bachelor’s degree in art direction from the Universidad Mayor, Santiago (2012).
Rivera Gallardo was born in 1977 in Santiago, where he continues to live and work.
