Biography
Fernanda Alvarado (b. 1995, Guatemala City) is a self-taught urban and documentary photographer. Capturing daily life, her work spotlights the struggles of women and the LGBTQ+ community. Castillo views urban photography as a form of resistance and a pathway to emancipation through the appropriation of public spaces. Her contributions have been featured in several media outlets, including La Cuerda, Agencia Ocote, Visibles, FEEM, Instituto 25A and 8M LATAM. Her work was included in the multidisciplinary exhibition Recontarnos (Rewriting Us) at apexart, New York (2022). She has engaged with two editions of Cinematic Creation Laboratory at the Women's Film Showcase, acting as a director of photography and poster photographer. A member of the La Revuelta collective, she collaborates on the Voces del Centro project and has been an English teacher for eight years.
