Simon Fujiwara

Biography

Simon Fujiwara often appears in his works but also collaborates with friends and family members. In linking fictional and real people, locations and events, he interrogates the boundary between the real and the imagined, often revealing the very fiction of such distinctions.

In 2012, Tate St. Ives, UK, hosted Fujiwara’s first major survey exhibition; the previous year, his first theatre work, The Boy Who Cried Wolf, was performed at Hebbel am Ufer in Berlin; Performa in New York and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, California.

His work has also been featured at the Power Plant, Toronto, Canada (2011); Hamburger Kunsthalle, Germany (2011); Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo, Japan (2011); São Paulo Bienal, Brazil (2010) and the Venice Biennale(2009), among other venues.

Fujiwara has published two artist’s books, The Incest Museum (2009) and 1982 (2012).
