Biography
Daniel Blanga Gubbay is a researcher and curator of public programmes. He teaches political philosophy at the Académie royale des Beaux-Arts, Brussels and regularly lectures abroad at institutions such as the American University of Beirut, University of Oslo and Goethe Institute, Cairo. He works as programmer for the Kunstenfestivaldesarts in Brussels and is part of the curatorial board for LiveWorks (Centrale Fies). He also currently curates a public programme for Sursock Museum, Beirut around the topic of opacity as form of resistance and a project in Palermo on 'protests in nature'. He is the initiator and curator of Aleppo, a research platform engaged in public reflection through theory and artistic interventions, appearing every season as an open and free imaginary school.
Among his publications are You Were Not Expected to Do This, with Elisabeth Ruchaud (Düsseldorf University Press, 2017); Back to the Order, co-edited with Ismail Fayed (Aleppo, 2016); Black Market (Aleppo, 2016); The Time We Share, with Lars Kwakkenbos (Yale University Press, 2015) and Not Only But Also (Festival of Santarcangelo, 2015).
Blanga Gubbay has presented a number of papers, including Knowing the Unknown, Para-education, Museum of Impossible Forms, Helsinki (2017); The Möbius Strip, On Fictional Institutions, Buda, Kortrijk, Belgium (2017); Art Without Work, Sursock Museum, Beirut (2016); Strike, Kunsthochschüle Dresden, Germany (2016) and Prophecies Without Content, American University of Beirut (2015)
He studied philosophy with Giorgio Agamben at the Architecture University of Venice. He was awarded a PhD in Cultural Studies from a joint programme between the University of Palermo, Valencia and the Freie Unversität, Berlin. Born in 1982 in Milan, he lives and works in Brussels.
