Biography

Working with drawing, painting, graphic design, video and sculpture, Hazem Harb creates installations that highlight issues of war, loss, trauma, human vulnerability and global instability. He uses a wide variety of mediums, ranging from concrete to family photographs, to show the impact of architecture and landscape on the quality of life.

Harb’s work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including the 57th Venice Biennale (2017); Chers Amis, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris (2016); The Invisible Landscape and Concrete Futures, Salsali Private Museum, Dubai (2015); Al Haraka Baraka: In Movement There is Blessing, Maraya Art Center, Sharjah (2016); Politics & The Production of Space: The Written City, City Hall, Bruges, Belgium (2015); Common Grounds, Villa Stuck Museum, Munich (2015); Present Future, Artissima, Turin, Italy (2015); Al Baseera, Athr Gallery, Jeddah, (2014); All That Is Unknown, Al-Ma’mal Art Foundation for Contemporary Art, Jerusalem (2011); Is this your first time in Gaza? The Mosaic Rooms, A. M. Qattan Foundation, London (2010); A Patch on My Evil Eye, The Arab British Centre, London (2010) and Burned Bodies, Città dell'Altra Economia, Rome (2008).

His works can be found in the collections of The British Museum, London; Sharjah Art Foundation; Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; Oriental Museum, Durham University, UK; Salsali Private Museum, Dubai and Barjeel Art Foundation, Sharjah, among others.
Harb participated in residencies at the Delfina Foundation, London (2011); Cité internationale des arts, Paris and Satellite, Dubai. He was also shortlisted for the A. M. Qattan Young Artist of the Year Award (2008). He completed his MFA at the European Institute of Design, Rome (2009).

Born in 1980 in Gaza, Harb currently lives between Rome and Dubai.
