Biography
Dale Harding works in a wide variety of media to explore the untold histories of his communities. A descendant of the Bidjara, Ghungalu and Garingbal peoples, he has been investigating the social and political realities experienced by members of his family who lived under government control in Queensland, with a focus on his matrilineal elders.
Harding’s work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at the Gertrude Contemporary, Melbourne (2019); Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane (2019); Milani Gallery, Brisbane (2016, 2017, 2018) and Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane (2015). His work has also been shown in group exhibitions at Tensta Konsthall, Stockholm (2018); Liverpool Biennial (2018); TarraWarra Biennial (2018); University of Queensland Art Museum, Brisbane (2017); National Gallery of Australia, Canberra (2017); Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney (2017); dOCUMENTA 14 (2017); Gwangju Biennale (2016); Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane (2015); South Australian Museum, Adelaide (2015) and Chugye University for the Arts, Seoul (2014), among others.
His work can be found in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago; Artspace Mackay, Australia; Griffith University Art Collection, Brisbane; Queensland Art Gallery ǀ Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane; University of Queensland Art Museum, Brisbane; Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, Sydney; National Gallery of Australia, Canberra and Tate Britain, London. His work was also featured in Dale Harding: Body of Objects, edited by Angela Goddard (Griffith University and documenta 14, 2017).
Harding has received numerous awards, including an acquisitive prize, Moreton Bay Regional Art Awards (2016); University Medal, Griffith University, Brisbane (2013) and Graduate Art Show Award, Griffith University Art Gallery (2012).
He earned a Bachelor of Contemporary Australian Indigenous Art, Queensland College of Art, Griffith University, Brisbane (2012) and a Bachelor of Fine Art with First Class Honors (2013) from the same institution.
Born in 1982 in Moranbah, Queensland, Australia, Harding lives and works in Brisbane.
