Biography
Hervé Cohen is an award-winning documentary and feature filmmaker, cinematographer, writer, editor and producer whose intimate, personal works explore identity, exile and memory. His filmmaking practice is motivated by his desire to capture our common humanity, whether in a remote village in Senegal or in urban Marseille.
Cohen’s most celebrated documentaries include Another Life (1996); Electric Shadows (1993); and Sikambano, the Sons of the Sacred Woods (1991). Directed by Guetty Felin, Ayiti Mon Amour (2016), a feature film produced by Cohen, premiered at Toronto International Film Festival and won the Best Feature Narrative Award at the Blackstar Film Festival (2017). Life Underground (2018), his latest critically acclaimed work, is an interactive web documentary and media installation journeying through the lives of passengers around the world’s subways.
Cohen holds a master’s degree in Law and Media from the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne.
