Biography
Saba Innab is an architect, artist and urban researcher whose practice departs from architecture as a multi-disciplinary practice. Through drawing, mapping, model making and design, her work explores the suspended states between temporariness and permanence and concerns itself with variable notions of dwelling and building and their political, spatial and poetic implications in language and architecture.
Innab’s work has been exhibited in the Biennale d’Architecture d’Orléans, Frac Centre-Val de Loire, Orleans, France (2017–2018); Misunderstandings, Les Turbulences, Orleans (2017); Misunderstandings, Espace Campo, Rome (2016); Qalandiya International: This Sea is Mine, Darat al Funun, Amman (2016); Al Rahhalah [The Traveler], Marfa’ Gallery, Beirut (2016); Marrakech Biennial 6 (2016); Home Works 7, Ashkal Alwan, Beirut (2015); Lest the Two Seas Meet, Museum of Modern Art, Warsaw (2015); HIWAR/Conversations in Amman, Darat al Funun, Amman (2013); Amman Journal, Forum Schlossplatz, Aarau, Switzerland (2012); No-Sheep’s Land, Darat al Funun, Amman (2011–2012); No-Sheep’s Land, Agial Art Gallery, Beirut (2011) and The Utopian Airport Lounge, public art project, Makan, Amman (2010). Her work can be found in the collection of Frac Centre-Val de Loire, Orleans. In addition to her work as an artist, she has been a speaker at Sharjah Art Foundation’s March Meeting 2011.
Innab has received grants from Al Mawred Al Thaqafy, Cairo (2012); Arab Fund for Art and Culture (AFAC), Beirut (2010) and Young Arab Theatre Fund (YATF), Brussels (2009). She was part of residencies including La Box, École nationale supérieure d'art de Bourges, France (2017) and Home Workspace Program, Ashkal Alwan, Beirut (2011–2012); and received a Visiting Research Fellowship from Studio X Amman/ GSAPP (Columbia Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation), Amman (2014).
In 2004, Innab received her Bachelor of Architectural Engineering from Jordan University of Science and Technology, Amman. She worked as an architect and urban designer for UNRWA in the reconstruction of Nahr el Bared Palestinian refugee camp in the north of Lebanon (2009–2012).
Born in 1980 in Kuwait, she lives and works between Amman and Beirut.
