Biography
In his videos and installations frequently resembling experimental configurations, Christoph Keller uses the discursive possibilities of art to investigate the themes of science and its utopias. His work ranges from the archaeology of scientific film, to a mirrored bus questioning the ethnocentric cultural viewpoint of science, to a silent film travelogue reflecting on the role of the spoken word.
Keller’s solo exhibitions include Small Survey on Nothingness, Schering Stiftung, Berlin (2014); Æther, de la cosmologie à la conscience, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris (2011); Voyages Extraordinaires, CRAC Alsace, Altkirch, France (2010); Observatorium, Kunstverein Braunschweig (2008) and Encyclopaedia Cinematographica, Kunst-Werke Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin (2001). His work has been shown internationally in group exhibitions at Sharjah Biennial 13, including the off-site project in Dakar (2017); Sprengel Museum, Hannover (2015); nGbK, Berlin (2012); Fundación PROA, Buenos Aires (2012); Lyon Biennale (2011); Museum of Contemporary Art, Detroit (2011) and Museum für Kunst and Gewerbe, Hamburg, among others.
He has been the recipient of the Cité des Arts Bourse de Production, Paris (2011); Berliner Senatsstipendium, Istanbul (2008) and Video-Kunst Preis, Bremen, Germany (2006).
Keller studied mathematics, physics and hydrology in Freiburg, Berlin and Santiago de Chile (1987-1995). He later pursued studies in liberal arts with Katharina Sieverding at the Hochschule der Künste, Berlin (1993-1996) and postgraduate studies in film and art at the Academy of Arts, Cologne (1996-1999). He participated in the Capacete Residency, São Paulo (2012); Goethe-Institut Project Residency, Mexico City (2009) and Résidences Internationales aux Recollets, Paris (2007).
