Biography
Khavn De La Cruz has 35 features and more than a hundred short films under his belt, including Mondomanila(Fantasia 2012), The Muzzled Horse of an Engineer in Search of Mechanical Saddles (Berlinale 2008), Squatterpunk (Rotterdam 2007),and Manila in the Fangs of Darkness(Viennale 2008).
Considered the father of Philippine digital filmmaking, he has served as jury member at the Berlinale, Clermont-Ferrand, CPH:DOX, Jeonju, Jihlava, and Dok Leipzig film festivals. Khavn has also judged the Palanca National Literary Awards, as well as won for his poetry and fiction. He has been selected thrice in the National Writers Workshop and is the author of five books, including Ultraviolins.
Khavn is also an award-winning musician and has performed his original compositions worldwide, as a solo pianist and with one of his three bands Fando & Lis, The Brockas, and Vigo. Once the proprietor of Oracafe, the late ’90s go-to place for local artists, Khavn is now the president of Kamias Road, Ltd., an independent film, music, and publishing company, and the festival director of .MOV International Film, Music, & Literature Festival, the first digital film festival in the Philippines.
