Biography
Informed by her background in photography and architecture, Bani Khoshnoudi explores ideas of exile and modernity, displacement, dislocation and memory.
Although Khoshnoudi primarily presents her vision through the medium of film, she has also developed visual arts and installation projects across the globe.
Khoshnoudi’s documentaries as well as short- and feature-length films such as Ziba (2013), The Silent Majority Speaks (2010), A People In The Shadows (2008) and Transit (2005) have been screened widely at international festivals, including Toulouse Latin America Film Festival, France (2019); Göteborg Film Festival, Sweden (2019); Miami Film Festival (2019); International Film Festival Rotterdam (2013); and Dubai International Film Festival (2012).
Her installation and photography works have been presented at institutions worldwide, including Museum of Contemporary Art, Zagreb (2020); Serralves Foundation, Porto, Portugal (2020); Centre Pompidou, Paris (2016); and Institute of Contemporary Arts, London (2016).
Khoshnoudi studied architecture, photography and film at the University of Texas in Austin (1995–1999) and was the studio artist at Whitney Museum of American Art’s Independent Study Program in New York (2008). She was selected for the Cinéfondation Writing Residency at the Cannes Film Festival, where she wrote her first feature film Ziba.
Born in 1977 in Tehran, Khoshnoudi currently lives and works between Mexico city and Paris.
