Biography
Whether proposing absurd reversals, offering instruction to inanimate objects or drawing obsessive mazes that hover between the meditative and neurotic, Beom Kim challenges truth while emphasising tensions between interior and physical worlds.
International solo exhibitions of his work include The School of Inversion Hayward Gallery, Project Space, London (2012); Animalia, REDCAT, Los Angeles (2011); Objects Being Taught They are Nothing But Tools, Cleveland Museum of Art, USA (2010) and Kim Beom, Artsonje Center, Seoul (2010).
Group exhibitions include California-Pacific Triennale, Orange County Museum, Los Angeles (2013); Gwangju Media Art Festival, Korea (2013) and Gwangju Biennale, Korea (2012).
Kim's works are included in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; the Cleveland Museum of Art, Ohio; the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; the Museum für Kommunikation, Bern, Switzerland; the Seoul Museum of Art; the Horim Museum, Seoul and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Gwachun, Korea.
Beom Kim was born in 1963 in Seoul, Korea where he currently lives and works. Beom obtained both a BFA and an MFA from Seoul National University in 1986 and 1988, and an MFA from the School of Visual Arts, New York in 1991.
