Biography
Multidisciplinary artist Nile Koetting works across a diverse range of formats, including installation, light, performance, scenography, sound and composition. His artistic projects explore new perceptions of interchange between material and immaterial and living and non-living in a landscape of technological time and space.
Koetting’s work has been presented in the solo exhibitions Remain Calm, Centre Pompidou x Westbund Museum, Shanghai, and Kunstverein Goettingen, Germany (both 2019); Whistler, Yamamoto Gendai, Tokyo (2016); and Hard in Organics, Yamamoto Gendai, Tokyo (2015), among others. His work has also been shown in group exhibitions at Anticorps, Palais de Tokyo (2020); Festival Do Disturb, Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2019); Talion Gallery, Tokyo (2019); Anomaly, Tokyo (2019); Somerset House, London (2018); Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow (2017); Kunstverein Hannover, Germany (2017); ZKM, Karlsruhe, Germany (2016); Mori Art Museum, Tokyo (2016); Maison Hermès, Tokyo (2016); and 3hd Festival, Berlin (2016).
He has participated in a residency at the Cité internationale des arts, Paris (2019), and he received a grant for the Overseas Study Program for Artists from the Agency for Cultural Affairs of the Japanese Government (2017) as well as the POLA Art Foundation Overseas Research Program Grant (2017) and the Yoshino Gypsum Art Foundation Oversea Research Grant (2013).
Koetting received a BFA from the Tama Art University, Tokyo (2012), and completed an exchange programme in media and sound art at Aalto University, Helsinki (2011). Born in 1989 in Kamakura, Japan, he lives and works between Tokyo and Berlin.
