Biography
Her obsessive accumulations of cigarette packaging, shopping bags and hardware entangle her conceptual practice with Arte Povera and Dadaist and Pop movements, while formally recalling Concrete art, Minimalism and Constructivism.
Jac Leirner has participated in the São Paulo Biennial, Brazil (1983 and 1989); in Venice Biennale both in Apreto (1990) and representing Brazil (1997); and Documenta, Kassel (1992). Solo exhibitions include Yale School of Art (2012); a major retrospective at Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, Brazil (2011); Centre d’Arte de Saint Nazaire, France (2011); Miami Art Museum (2004). She has been artist in resident at Walker Art Center, Minneapolis and the Museum of Modern Art Oxford, and Yale School of Art.
Her work is found in public collections including Tate Modern, London, UK; The Museum of Modern Art, New York; Berlin and Soloman R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, USA; Museu de Arte Moderna, São Paulo, Brazil.
