Biography
Antonio Vega Macotela works in a multidisciplinary, site-specific and research-based art practice. He explores the links between art and economics, addressing notions of labour, value and exchange.
His work has been shown in a number of exhibitions, including Stories of almost everyone, Hammer museum (2018) dOCUMENTA 14, Kassel and Athens (2017); Lecturas de un territorio fragmentado, Museo Amparo, Puebla, Mexico (2017); Asymetrical Warfare, Witte de With Contemporary Art Center, Rotterdam (2015); Deseos y Necesidades. Nuevas incorporaciones a la Colección MACBA, Museo d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (2015); 100 ans plus tard, Palais du Tokyo, Paris (2014) and 13th Istanbul Biennial (2013).
Vega Macotela has undertaken residencies at the ACC-Rijksakademie residency programme, Gwangju, Korea (2015); Le Pavillon, Palais du Tokyo, Paris (2014); Intermedia Artist in Residence programme, Parsons School of Art, Media and Technology, New York (2012) and Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten, Amsterdam (2012). He earned a Bachelor of Fine Art from the National School of Fine Arts, Mexico City (2004).
He was born in 1980 in Mexico City, where he continues to live and work.
