Biography

As a visual artist working primarily in video and sculpture, Jumana Manna explores how power is articulated through relationships, often focusing on the body and materiality in relation to narratives of nationalism and histories of place.

Manna’s works have been exhibited internationally in both solo and group exhibitions, including the Toronto Biennale (2019); Jumana Manna, Tabakalera, San Sebastián, Spain (2019); Phantom Limb, Jameel Arts Center, Dubai (2019); Taipei Biennale (2018); SITElines, Santa Fe Biennale, US (2018); The Centre Cannot Hold, Lafayette Anticipations, Paris (2018); A Small Big Thing, Henie Onstad Art Center, Høvikodden, Norway (2018); Adrenarchy, SALTS, Basel (2018); Mirrored, The Nordic Pavilion, Venice Biennale (2017); Qalandiya International Biennale, Palestine (2016); Liverpool Biennial (2016); Marrakech Biennale (2016); Lest The Two Seas Meet, Museum of Modern Art, Warsaw (2015) and Sharjah Biennial (2013).

Among Manna’s numerous awards are the New: Vision Award, CPH:DOX, Copenhagen (2018); ars viva Prize for Visual Arts, Düsseldorf (2017); Films on Art International Competition Prize, New Horizons International Film Festival, Wroclaw, Poland (2016); Sandefjord Kunstpris, Norway (2015) and the Young Artist of the Year Award sponsored by the A. M. Qattan Foundation, Ramallah (2012).
Manna received a bachelor’s degree from the National Academy of Arts, Oslo (2009) and a master’s degree in aesthetics and politics from the California Institute of the Arts, Santa Clarita, US (2011).

Born in 1987 in Princeton, US and raised in Jerusalem, Manna now lives and works in Berlin.
