Biography

The experimental works of filmmaker and artist Randa Maroufi explore an elastic awareness of reality. Her films and moving images often employ special effects and other formal devices that alter perceptions of time, space and movement.

Maroufi’s films have been featured at the Dakar Biennale (2018); Mercosul Biennial, Porto Alegre, Brazil (2018); Prospectif cinéma, Centre Pompidou, Paris (2017); Videonale e. V., Bonn, Germany (2017); Sharjah Biennial 13 (2017); Dubai Photo Exhibition (2016); International Film Festival Rotterdam (2016); New Directors/New Films, Museum of Modern Art, New York (2016); Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival (2016); African Photography Meeting, Bamako, Mali (2015) and Marrakech Biennale (2014).

She has received over twenty awards for her film Le Park (2015), including Best Short Film, IBAFF Festival, Murcia, Spain (2017); Videonale Award, Fluentum Collection, Berlin (2017); Jury Prize, International Film Festival Rotterdam (2016) and ADAGP Digital Art Award for Video Art, Paris (2015). The film is also part of the collection of the Centre national des arts plastiques (CNAP), France.

Maroufi is a graduate of the National Institute of Fine Arts, Tetouan, Morocco (2010) and the School of Fine Arts, Angers, France (2013). She also earned a diploma from Le Fresnoy - Studio national des arts contemporains, Lille, France (2015).

Born in 1987 in Casablanca, she currently lives and works in Paris.
