Biography

Mochu is an experimental filmmaker, artist and writer whose work engages with the life of fictional figures found in works of art and their encounters with various philosophies, mythologies and techno-fiction. A number of his works focus on particular milestones in art history, drawing on the imagery found in the works of earlier artists.

His work has been exhibited at Sharjah Biennial 13 (2017); Beirut Art Center (2016); National Gallery of Modern Art, Bangalore, India (2015); Khoj International Artists Association, New Delhi (2015); Collectif Jeune Cinema, Paris (2015); Transmediale – festival for art and digital culture, BWPWAP (Back When Pluto Was a Planet), Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin (2013) and Royal Academy of Art, London (2007). His article ‘Trophies of an Afternoon’ was published in the journal Studies in South Asian Film and Media (2015).

He was a fellow at the Home Workspace Program, Ashkal Alwan, Beirut (2016) and received a grant for a research residency at Utopiana, Geneva and Pro Helvetia, New Delhi and Zurich (2014). He was also awarded an Arts Research and Documentation Grant, India Foundation for the Arts, Bangalore (2013).

Mochu holds a Graduate Diploma in Film and Video Communication from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, India (2008). He was born 1983 in Kerala and is currently based in India.
