Biography
The work of sculptor Mohammed Abdullah Bulhiah, constructed in metal, wood and stone, consists of both abstract forms and sculptures of Emirati wildlife.
His work has been featured in several solo exhibitions as well as various local and international group shows, including 1980–Today: Exhibitions in the United Arab Emirates, UAE Pavilion, 56th Venice Biennale (2015); Sharjah Biennial 3 (1997); Portraits, Emirates Fine Arts Society, UAE (1995); Sharjah Biennials 1 and 2 (1993, 1995) and the first GCC States Plastic Arts Exhibition, Riyadh (1989).
Among Bulhiah’s many awards are a gold medal at the International Festival of Love and Peace, Korea; first place in sculpture at the general exhibition of the Emirates Fine Arts Society, Sharjah and the sculpture award at The UAE in the Eyes of Its Artists, Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation (1998). He has been actively involved in numerous cultural organisations, such as the Emirates Fine Arts Society, Sharjah; the GCC Art Friends Group; Al Jidar Fine Arts Group, Sharjah and the Al Iyab Fine Arts Society.
Bulhiah was born in 1953 in Sharjah, where he continues to live and work.
